David Dunlap - Stained Glass
Glass has been an endless source of fascination, challenge and mystery to me. Sand + Heat = Glass? Add in some metallic oxides and color bursts forth.
The medium is very difficult to master and it has inherent design limitations. One way to circumvent the limitations that glass exhibits is to us a technique called “plating”.
This is the use of multiple layers of glass leaded together to achieve a desired design effect. I have been using this for many years in both my residential and Church commissions. It is most notably displayed in the Chapel window in the Medical Center of Lewisville, where almost all of the windows are double layers of glass.
I started working in glass in 1973 with small decorative objects. As with anything in life, the projects began to grow in scope, and I started working with churches about 10 years later.
I find each project a unique journey on my quest to perfection.
