Hand-Crafted Furniture (see #17 on the Map)
My hand-crafted furniture ranges in style from conventional
cabinetry to craftsman to contemporary. I am fortunate to
own 155 acres of old growth forest in east Texas, where I
obtain my wood. The wood typically comes from 100+ year old
trees which have died of natural causes or have been blown
down. I have the logs milled, then I age them for 2 or more
years before turning them into lumber. I frequently integrate
the “imperfections” of the wood, i.e. knots, beetle
holes, interesting grain, etc. into the design to create visual
interest. In my most recent piece I have combined wood, wrought
steel, marble and fused glass in the design. I enjoy collaborating
with my clients on the design of the pieces, creating something
that reflects their individual tastes.
The use of wood obtained from a sustainable source has been
well received by my clients, and is consistent with the publics’
awareness of the need for conservation of our natural resources.
