 Sandra Smith

Sandra Smith – Oil Painter (Active member- not on the tour this year).

“My portraits are life sized or much larger.” says Sandra Smith, “It is critical to the success of the piece that the personality of the subject be reflected in their expression.   I strive for a mood of mystery in all of my paintings.”

Following a decade as a successful commercial artist, Sandra became an art educator in the St. Louis public school district.  Her dream of becoming a portrait painter was realized when she moved to Richmond, Virginia in 1992.  Establishing a studio there she received many awards and commissions for portraits. While having a degree in fine art from Webster University in St. Louis, she feels that her real education has been in working closely with other painters and studying the established masters. Color, light and shadow all play a role in setting the proper mood.

In 1999 Sandra was thrilled to return to Texas, her home state.  After relocating to Flower Mound in 2005 she opened a new studio in her home.  She has been exploring many different techniques and subjects in her paintings including abstraction and larger than life formats.   Expanding, growing and having lots of fun Sandra always comes back to faces.  “I love faces!”, she admits.

During the Cross Timbers Artists Studio Tour, Sandra will be demonstrating her painting techniques in her studio and offering refreshments on the patio.
